Splendor Of The Cross

How all of heaven must have shined that day
When on a lonely planet far away
They watched their suffering King His head bowed down
Tears seen thorns where there had been a crown

There were no flowers blooming all around
Where His precious blood came streaming down
See the King of Glory dying for the lost
Oh, the awesome splendor of His cross

And that old cross will always testify to me
For there my Savior died alone to make me free
And now what things were gained to me, I count for loss
To own my Savior and the splendor of His cross

They cursed Jesus and dared Him to come down
As they gambled for His robe there on the ground
But God answered man's rebellion with His love
For all must come to the cross and through the blood

Ten thousand angels stood at His command
Yet, He cried, "Father forgive them for their sins"
Behold your Savior dying for the love
Oh, the awesome splendor of the cross

And that old cross will always testify to me
For there my Savior died alone to make me free
And now what things were gained to me, I count for loss
To own my Savior and the splendor of His cross

What things were gained to me, I count for loss
To own my Savior and the splendor of His cross

Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them;
for they know not what they do.
And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Matthew 27:42 He saved others; himself he cannot save.
 If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down
from the cross, and we will believe him.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon him;
and with his stripes we are healed.
